English I: About the Class
English I is designed to improve the student’s writing and reading skills. The semester is broken into four units: Romeo and Juliet (unit contains an essay assignment), short stories, The Odyssey, and Speak (a novel). Grammar and vocabulary instruction will be incorporated throughout the units as necessary.
Students are also required to complete an "Independent Reading Project" based on non-fiction readings. The majority of the work for this project is to be completed outside of class. Reading logs will shared in Google Drive folders.
All assignments for English I are subject to the WHS English Department policy. Late work is accepted one day late, for which the student will receive 50% credit. After one day, the student will receive no credit for the assignment. This policy applies to all assignments in English I.
